Monochromatic Makeup

Monochromatic makeup, like the name suggests, is the approach of keeping your eyes, lips, and cheeks within one shade range and this is having a huge moment currently. To wit, most celebrities have been hitting the red-carpet sporting perfectly coordinated shades.

The good thing about this makeup is that it is easy to pull off. Generally rooted in beige, brown, pink, or red, it can be completed efficiently by picking a shade that looks good on the skin tone and keeping all the other products within that color range. If you are not certain about where to start, you should toss out all your makeup on a flat surface then make pairs or trios. This is a perfect time to break into the many eye palettes you rarely use or neutral lip colors that you are not sure how to wear.

The rise in popularity of the monochromatic look is also likely to be the result of demand for multitasking products since everyone searches for more straightforward and quicker makeup application to fit in with their busy schedules. And, while in the past we have been advised to define just our eyes or lips, the trend permits you to actually do both.

How to get the monochromatic makeup look

Decide the shade you want

Select your monochrome shade. Pink monochrome is so feminine, ethereal and ever so slightly old school. Pick a color that is commensurate to your skin tone. You may incline towards warmer, coral-toned pink, or you may be more of a blue-based pink kind of person. Orange, peachy tones are modern, warm, and great for more opaque pops of color. If you have a pale skin tone, you should choose warm or cool, but keep it subdued.

Make use of a variety of shades

After you have decided on a base color, use varying shades of that color for your makeup application. If you agreed on pink as your base color, for instance, then use a medium shade of pink on your eye lids, a lighter shade on your cheeks, and a deep shade of pink on the lips.

If you decide to go with purple as your base color, then choose from lavender, mauve, and violet.

If you went with brown as our base color, then try dark brown, tan, and taupe.

Applying the makeup

Prepare your face

Apply your makeup as you usually would, for example, moisturizer, foundation, and concealer. This will get your face ready for the application of eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick.

Put on the eyeshadow.

  • Use a single eyeshadow brush to apply a single wash of color to the eyelid. Also, apply a string of shadow along your lower lash line.
  • Since dark mascaras can overpower a monochromatic look, use a lighter mascara, like a brown or dark brown, on your lashes.
  • Do not use your finger to apply eyeshadow, since the natural oils on your hands can tamper with the color of the makeup.

Apply your blush.

Dip your brush in the blush. Before applying the blush, tap the brush to get rid of any extra powder. Thereafter, sweep the blush over the apples of your cheeks, or your cheekbones.

For a great flush, sweep the blush up to your temples.

Color your lips with lipstick.

Use a lipstick that is the same color or a different shade of your base color. Apply the lipstick using your finger to get a more natural, less graphic look.[9]

Use a lighter shade for daytime and a darker shade for night time.
